About Us

About BettingInNM

Independent, expert coverage of legal sports betting in New Mexico — focused on tribal sportsbooks and the state's unique compact-based market.

Our Mission

Why BettingInNM Exists

BettingInNM provides accurate, unbiased information about New Mexico's tribal sportsbook market. New Mexico has the most unusual sports betting landscape in the United States — there is no formal state law authorizing sports betting, no online or mobile wagering, and all legal action happens at five tribal casinos operating under their own interpretation of 2015 Class III gaming compacts.

Our goal is to help residents and visitors understand this uniquely complex legal landscape, locate the right sportsbook for their needs, and bet responsibly within the boundaries of state and tribal law.

Coverage

What We Cover

  • All 5 New Mexico tribal sportsbooks (Santa Ana Star, Buffalo Thunder, Inn of the Mountain Gods, Isleta Resort & Casino, Route 66)
  • NM gambling laws and the unique tribal compact-based legal framework
  • Sports markets available at each casino — NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football and basketball, UFC/MMA, horse racing
  • Responsible gambling resources and self-exclusion programs
  • News on NM sports betting legislation, compact negotiations, and operator changes
Boundaries

What We Don't Do

Transparency about our limits is part of being a responsible information source. Here is what BettingInNM is not:

We do not operate sportsbooks. BettingInNM is an information site only. We do not accept wagers, process bets, or hold any player funds.

We do not promote offshore operators. Offshore betting apps are illegal in New Mexico and undermine the tribal compacts. We will not link to or endorse them.

We are not a casino or affiliate. We may earn commissions from licensed casino partnerships, which never affect our editorial coverage. Currently we have no active partnerships.

Editorial Standards

How We Fact-Check

Every claim on BettingInNM is verified against primary sources. Our verification chain prioritizes:

  • The New Mexico Gaming Control Board (nmgcb.org) for state-level licensing and regulatory information
  • Tribal gaming commissions for casino-specific rules, compact terms, and operator changes
  • Casino official statements and press releases for sportsbook openings, partnerships, and amenity changes
  • Court records and legislative documents for legal framework reporting
  • Reputable industry publications for market context and historical timeline

We update this site monthly at minimum, and immediately when news breaks. Corrections are published transparently — when we get something wrong, we fix the page and add a corrections note.

Methodology

How We Rate Sportsbooks

Our reviews of New Mexico's five tribal sportsbooks evaluate each operation across five clearly defined criteria. We weigh each criterion equally and disclose our scoring on every review.

01

Operator Reputation & Licensing

Tribal gaming commission oversight, partnership with established operators (BetMGM, William Hill, USBookmaking), regulatory history, and integrity record.

02

Market Depth & Odds Quality

Range of sports covered, prop bet variety, live betting availability, parlay options, and how odds compare across NM tribal books.

03

Physical Amenities

Sportsbook lounge quality, viewing screens, seating comfort, food and beverage service, and overall in-person experience.

04

Accessibility

Casino location, hours of operation, ease of access from major NM cities (Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces), and parking.

05

College Betting Policy Clarity

Transparency around in-state college team rules, prop bet restrictions on UNM Lobos and NMSU Aggies, and clear posted policies.

Independence

Our Editorial Independence

BettingInNM has no financial stake in any specific sportsbook. Our reviews reflect our own independent assessment based on the criteria above. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage.

If we partner with any operator for affiliate revenue in the future (we currently have none), it will be clearly disclosed on the relevant page. Affiliate relationships will never influence our scoring or recommendations.

The Team

Who We Are

BettingInNM is operated by a team of New Mexico-based writers and researchers familiar with tribal gaming, the New Mexico legislative process, and the sports betting industry. We've been covering legal NM sports betting since the Santa Ana Star launch in October 2018 — the first legal sports bet in the state.

Our editors live in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and southern New Mexico, and we visit each tribal sportsbook in person to evaluate amenities and confirm policies firsthand.
